A pop-up card is a small piece of engineering. Ours are drawn, cut and assembled by people, which is why a buyer in Chicago can order one for a birthday and a buyer in Berlin can order four thousand for a season.
- 1
Draw the mechanism
Each design begins as a folding study. If it will not close flat, it does not leave the studio.
- 2
Cut the paper
Dies are cut for every layer, then run on heavyweight Italian card stock.
- 3
Assemble by hand
Layers are glued, set and squared one card at a time. This is the slow part, and it is the part that shows.
- 4
Open it, close it, check it
Every card is opened and closed before it is packed. A pop-up that catches is a reject.
- 5
Pack it for the post
Card, envelope and backing board, sealed in a sleeve that survives international mail.

We are the workshop, not a trading desk. That means short runs are possible, your brand goes on the envelope instead of ours, and the person who answers your email can walk over and look at the card.

Hanoi workshop
Come and cut one yourself
Two hours with our paper artists. You score, cut and glue a pop-up card, and you take it home the same afternoon. No craft experience, and nothing to bring.
Good for couples, families, school groups and company days out. Tour operators and hotels, talk to us about running it for your guests.
